A man has been jailed after a 78-year-old woman was carjacked, before being run over with her own car.
On Tuesday 19 July 2016, 46-year-old Paul Anthony Moore of no fixed address was sentenced to 11 years in prison.
At an earlier hearing, Moore pleaded guilty to wounding with intent, robbery and dangerous driving. He has been disqualified from driving for a further five and a half years after he has served his sentence.
On Wednesday 20 April, 78-year-old Dorothy Cooper was returning to her car on a car park off Sandy Lane in Royton, after doing some shopping. It was then when Paul Moore approached her vehicle, and told her to get out as there was a problem with it.
Dorothy got out and bent down to see the problem. Moore then jumped into the vehicle and reversed at speed hitting Dorothy with the front of the car knocking her to the ground. Moore then drove over her as she lay in the car’s path.
Detective Constable Benjamin Miller, from GMP’s Oldham CID, said: “We are very pleased to see Paul Moore behind bars for this hideous crime.
“Moore didn’t care that he knocked over Dorothy, he proved that by driving straight over her. All he cared about was stealing her car.
“It was a cowardly act and he targeted the person he thought most vulnerable.
“It is a miracle that Dorothy survived, and I’m so happy that we have been able to get justice for her and her family”.
