Man punched and stamped on in city centre

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) has released CCTV image of a man they would like to speak to after a man was punched and stamped on in the city centre.

On Wednesday 23 December 2015, shortly before 2am, there was an altercation on Withy Grove near to Tiger Tiger in the city centre.

One man punched another man in the face, causing him to fall to the floor. Another man in the group then approached the man lying on the floor and stamped on his head.

The victim suffered a fractured jaw and a fractured eye socket which required surgery.

Two men, aged 22 and 20, were arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault and have been bailed until 22 February 2016 pending further enquiries.

GMP would like to speak to the man in the CCTV image released, in connection with the assault.

He is described as an Asian man aged in his early 20s. He is of a medium build with short black hair which is parted to one side and has a well-groomed beard and moustache. He was wearing a dark coloured round neck jumper with a white shirt underneath.

Police are appealing for information and witnesses.

Detective Constable Anthony Strong said: “It appears there was an altercation inside Tiger Tiger which resulted in a group of men being ejected from the club together. It was after this that the assault took place outside on the street.

“We are asking if anybody recognises the man in the image or know who was involved that they contact police”.
