Oral David Bryan was yesterday jailed for life for the murder of his ex partner Nicola Mckenzie.
On 17 September 2014, Nicola, 37, was struck over the head by Bryan outside his home on Cadogan Street in Moss Side following an argument with Bryan’s current partner at the time.
Her two young children as well as others belonging to Bryan all witnessed the horrific attack which left Ms McKenzie with severe brain injuries.
After attempting to lift the victim before letting her drop which resulted in her banging her head again, Bryan fled the scene but was later arrested nearby.
Nicola was put in intensive care at Hope Hospital with massive skull trauma and brain injuries but sadly died two days later.
On Tuesday 17 March, Oral David Bryan was sentenced to life in prison and must serve a minimum of 20 years, meaning he will be 64 before he can be considered for any kind of release.
Senior Investigating Officer Duncan Thorpe said: “This was a tragic incident where the life of a woman was sadly cut short in brutal fashion by a man she was once close to.
“Oral David Bryan showed absolutely no concern about his victim and the only intention in his mind when he retrieved the hockey stick from his house was to cause serious harm.
“His lack of concern was further exemplified when he fled the scene to try and save himself rather than get medical attention for Nicola.
“I know the sentence passed here today won’t bring her back or even begin to make up for their loss but I hope it will offer Nicola’s family some closure and my thoughts are with them.”
Nicola’s family have paid tribute, calling her a devoted mum who was always bubbly.
