Manchester United has agreed on a deal to sign Chelsea’s Nemanja Matic for £40 million. The signing will be announced in the next week, according to reports.
United boss, Jose Mourinho, has been an admirer of Matic since the pair won the Premier League title at Stamford Bridge in 2015.
According to The Guardian, the 28-year-old midfielder made an agreement with Manchester United after the two clubs agreed upon the fee.
United have been on the lookout for a long-term replacement for Michael Carrick for some time.
Pending a medical, Matic is expected to sign a deal worth more than his current £90,000 weekly salary at Chelsea. He will become United’s second signing of the summer, following £31m signing of Benfica’s central defender Victor Lindelof.
The 28-year-old Matic has 32 caps for Serbia. He has played at club level for Kolubara, Kosice, Vitesse Arnhem and Benfica besides his two spells at Chelsea.
He spent two years under Mourinho with the Blues before the Portuguese was sacked in December 2015.
