The ninth annual charity Santa Run is set to take place on the 13th of December. The run, which will begin at Old Trafford, is a great opportunity for families to immerse the festive spirit of Christmas whilst keeping active and fit. This year former right-back and Manchester United legend Dennis Irwin will be starting both races.
The event offers participants the choice of two runs to partake in, the 5-kilometre Santa Run and the 2-kilometre Family Fun Run, although attendees can participate in both. The former is the race most appropriate for those looking to test themselves against the clock, with the latter adopting a wholesome and inclusive tone. Participants of the 5k run will take in the sights of the Imperial War Museum, The Lowry and Media City UK before crossing the finish line in the players’ tunnel, the race will start at 11.30am.
The 2k run is the one for all of the family and participants will make their way around the stadium, before crossing the finish line in the players’ tunnel, this route will be fully wheelchair accessible. After 8 years of the event being the same price, the organisers of the run have had to increase entry fees for adults and families as a result of an increase in costs. However the entry fee covers any costs that are incurred by participation, including online booking fees, traffic management, Santa suits, medals, signage and advertising.
The Manchester United Foundation still provide the best value Santa run in the north west region, with great charities being widely represented. All runners dressed as Santa or in fancy-dress have a chance of winning an exclusive signed Manchester United item with prizes for the best-dressed child and best-dressed adult also on offer.
