Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata has described the wages of top footballers as “ridiculous” during an interview on Spanish television.
The 27-year-old, speaking from his home in Manchester, appeared on the weekly news show Salvados where he discussed the wage gap between professional footballers and the rest of society.
“With respect to the world of football, I earn a normal wage. But compared to 99.9% of Spain and the rest of the world, I earn a silly amount,” he said.
“It’s like we live in a bubble. With respect to the rest of society, we earn a ridiculous amount. It’s unfathomable”.
