With London Fashion Week currently in full swing, TNT thought it well to reflect back on the other LFW – Lakme Fashion Week.
Held between 24 – 28 August, India’s most prestigious and popular fashion event saw dozens of top Indian designers reveal their latest must-have designs.
Fashion designer, Manish Malhotra, took centre stage at this year’s Lakme Fashion Week, after showcasing his Autumn/Winter 2016 line.
His collection highlighted Indian craftsmanship with ornate beading, his signature resham threadwork, clustered sequins and intricate hand embroidery on dramatic trails.
By combining authentic and traditional Indian style with modern silhouettes, Malhotra created a stylish bridal entourage at the coveted fashion event.
Malhotra, who has a fashion career spanning over 25 years, works largely with top directors and artists in the Bollywood film industry. As one of the most successful Indian fashion designers, Malhotra is renowned for his approach to create a unique style and his ability to envision a ‘look’ for a character.
The 51-year-old designer describes his Bollywood forte as “an entire, integrated look for a character throughout a film”.
Unlike London Fashion Week, Lakme Fashion Week is held twice a year. Created with a vision to “redefine the future of fashion and integrate India into the global fashion world”, the fashion event showcases the latest lines from over 40 Indian designers.
Alongside Malhotra, Lakme Fashion Week saw the award-winning styles from top designers including Ajay Kumar, Eesha Amiin, Asa Kazingmei and Anushree Reddy.
