Masked attacks in Manchester could be linked, say GMP

Detectives are investigating after masked thugs armed with weapons smashed through a car window in an attack in South Manchester.

At around 8.45pm on Sunday 14 May, three men in balaclavas reportedly pulled up on West Grove in Longsight.

Emerging from a black Nissan X-trail, they smashed the windows of a Seat Leon car with a sledgehammer.

One of the three men was also carrying a gun.

Earlier, at 8.30pm the same evening, a man was sat in his car on Lindsay Avenue in Levenshulme.

A group of men then arrived in a 4×4 and approached him armed with knives, a sledgehammer and a gun.

They threatened the man and hit him before fleeing the scene.

Detectives believe both incidents, which happened within minutes of each other, could well be linked.

Detective Inspector Brian Morley, of GMP’s City of Manchester Team, has urged witnesses to come forward.

He said: “We are investigating two reports of men armed with weapons from the same evening.

“Fortunately, no-one was seriously injured but we need to catch and stop these men”.
