McDonald’s blasts ‘disgusting excuse’ for president

A tweet sent from McDonald’s Twitter account blasted Trump for being a ‘disgusting excuse’ for a president.

On 16 March 2017, a tweet sent from McDonald’s twitter account blasted Trump. The tweet read “You are actually a disgusting excuse for a President and we would love to have @BarackObama back, also you have tiny hands”.

The tweet was posted at 9.16 am EST – whilst the chain was serving breakfast – remaining live for around 15 minutes. The unexpected tweet was also pinned to McDonald’s Twitter page. Many twitter users were amused, as they were given a different type of ‘tea’ to sip on.

Users joked about what may have happened, with many thinking that a disgruntled employee was responsible.

One Twitter user wrote, “The day a McDonalds employee went rouge #NeverForget” .

Another user wrote, “Things I never expected to say in Politics: Did you hear what McDonalds said about President Trump’s hand size?”

Some Trump Supporters called for a boycott of the fast-food chain.

McDonald’s deleted the tweet and released a statement, blaming an ‘external source’ for the tweet. The company told followers that they had investigated the matter and determined that their page had been hacked.

‘Swift action’ was taken to secure the page and the corporation apologised that the tweet was sent out. McDonald’s said that Twitter notified them that their account had been “compromised”.

The statement disappointed some Twitter users. One user wrote, “I’ll buy 100 McNuggets right now if you put the tweet back up”.

Some Twitter users noticed that the tweet was sent via Twitter web. Other tweets were sent from social media manager, Sprinklr.

Trump is a known McDonald’s fan. After winning the Republican Party’s presidential nomination he celebrated with a McDonald’s meal.

In January the BBC found themselves in a similar situation when they tweeted that Trump had been shot.

The unexpected tweet amused many within the social media community.
