Cory Henry & The Funk Apostles To Release Their Debut Album ‘Chapter 1: The Art of Love’ on September 29th 2017.
The nine-song collection showcases organ virtuoso and three-time Grammy Award-winner Henry’s ability to blend gospel, R&B, funk and jazz and highlights his broad range of musical influences that includes Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Jimi Hendrix, James Brown and Prince. Formerly of Snarky Puppy. Henry was dubbed by AllMusic as “one of the finest Hammond B-3 organ players of his generation”. He is a uniquely engaging artist. Who possesses a rare ability to combine the subtle intricacies of jazz with a deep, gospel-powered soulfulness.
Recorded in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, ‘Chapter 1: The Art Of Love’ was tracked live to tape. In an effort both to capture the inimitable energy of the band’s live shows. And to channel the warm analogue vibes of the 1970s. Several tracks are actually first-take recordings. Henry may be renowned for his gifts as an improviser. However the album serves as a showcase for his skills as a songwriter and producer. This album is rich with intricate arrangements and memorable hooks.
The Funk Apostles, comprised of five musicians (Adam Agati, Guitar; Taron Lockett, Percussion; Nick Semrad, Keyboard; Sharay Reed, Bass), were hand-picked to bring Cory’s musical concepts to life and have played with the likes of Lauryn Hill, Patti LaBelle, Erykah Badu & Aretha Franklin.
