Minister Louis Farrakhan has offered Beyoncé security from the Nation of Islam for her forthcoming world tour.
On Sunday 21 February, during his keynote address at the Nation of Islam’s Savior Day event in Detroit, Farrakhan responded to the backlash from police unions after they threatened to boycott the singer’s ‘Formation’ world tour. The unions issued the threat after deeming her Super Bowl halftime performance to be divisive.
Farrakhan revealed “You’re gonna picket, your not gonna offer her police protection, but the F.O.I (Fruit of Islam) will”. The Nation of Islam leader also criticised former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who recently condemned Beyoncé for using the Super Bowl as a platform to attack police officers.
He remarked, “She started talking all that black stuff, and white folks were like, ‘We don’t know how to deal with that’. Well you taught us everywhere we went about the holocaust, but we had sympathy for you. But when one of us shows some independence, look at how you’re treating Beyoncé now”.
In the past the controversial leader has been less supportive of Beyoncé, in 2015 he said that she needed to cover up and that she should be more modest in her attire. He stated, “Today, you strip the woman of her clothes. How can a man think straight, looking at the beauty of Beyoncé?
However Farrakhan now looks like he is finally getting in to formation as he has been hailing both Beyoncé and Kendrick Lamar, whose politically charged Grammys performance was immersed in black pride.
