A man has been shot dead and three others are injured after a drive-by shooting during the rapper Nipsey Hussle’s funeral.
Police said they were hit as the funeral procession for the star drove through the streets of Los Angeles which were lined with mourners.
Three men and a woman, aged between 30 and 50, were hit by bullets fired from a vehicle that is now being hunted by cops.
Police chief Michel Moore said: ‘In the midst of this procession we have a multi-4 Shooting at 103 St and Main St. Victims are 3 Male Blacks and 1 Female Black – ages from 30-50 years old. Suspects in gray Hyundai fired on the victims.
‘Tragically one is deceased. We must stop this senseless violence.’
Among the mourners were a host of stars including Stevie Wonder and Snoop Dogg who have gathered at the Staples Centre arena for a public memorial.
Police also revealed two women were wounded by gunfire as a crowd stampeded during a vigil for the rapper. About 400 people had gathered to mourn Hussle on 31 March, the same day he was fatally shot and two others injured outside his shop The Marathon.
A search is now underway for the shooter.
One of the women said she heard a quick succession of shots and ran away with many of the rest of the crowd, falling to the ground in the stampede.
She got into a car and discovered she had been shot in the lower back. The other woman was knocked down and when she stood up again felt a strange sensation in her elbow.
A witness told her she had been shot and she drove herself away from the scene before being taken to hospital.
Nineteen people were injured at the vigil, most of them hurt during the stampede. Hussle, whose real name was Ermias Asghedom, was a figure beloved in the hip-hop community for his music and his work trying to improve the neighbourhood where he grew up.
His efforts won the praise of public officials including Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and California Senator Kamala Harris.
