Hollinwood Academy secondary school will shortly be setting up a post-16 centre in the middle of Oldham. The centre will focus on helping young adults with special needs to find work.
The school’s sixth form drama and ICT pathways, Lumenus and Digit4l, will move over to the Medtia building in Oldham in January. Here they will begin to find supported work placements in the local community.
Associate Principal Graham Quinn says: “As most of [the governmental] reforms have been introduced with little or no consideration for children and young people with additional needs, a number of schools including our own are working with officials to see where our children fit in”. The new site in Medtia Square aims to prepare young people in Manchester with additional needs for life after school, whilst maintaining support and pastoral care.
