Olympic gold medallist, Jason Gardener MBE, attended Manchester Academy’s annual student awards as a guest of honour.
Now in its third year, this year’s event took place at Manchester Central on 21 October. Jason, who won a gold medal at the 2004 Olympic Games, joined staff, governors and guests to celebrate student success.
With prizes across each year group and subject area, the event saw each winner receive a certificate and personal trophy. Special awards were given to the following students: Elijah Walters-Othman, Samuel Remi-Akinwale, Malaika Karim, Mohamed Mohamed, Yahya Maasher, Sorvat Kazemi, Ibrahim Jalloh, Donovan Patterson and Tirveni Cournadin.
During the ceremony, the former sprinter gave students and guests insight into the world of international athletics. He also gave an inspirational talk which detailed his Olympic gold medal win.
Guests at the presentation were entertained by a diverse range of performances from students. Commenting on the event, the Academy’s principal, Mr. Griffin said, “Our annual awards help” to “recognise and reward our students’ fantastic achievements”.
The visit from the former athlete has inspired students and guests to strive for the best.
