Seven Open University regional centres are set to close in Birmingham, Bristol, Cambridge, Gateshead, Leeds, London and Oxford.
Staff members of the University and College Union have united and staged a one-day strike this week with plans to continue the fight on 2 December.
The closures will see over 500 job losses, which have concerned the staff and students as the OU’s council plan to create three larger student support centres.
Peter Horrocks, vice-chancellor of The Open University stated that the move was a positive action made to improve student services.
“Our priority now is to maintain and improve services for our hard-working students while supporting our staff as we start to implement these changes”.
