Some Coronation Street viewers have made complaints, following an episode on Monday 5 September that featured a passionate gay kiss.
Characters Todd Grimshaw and Billy Mahew embraced in the bedroom of a hotel, much to the disgust of certain Corrie fans.
The complaints seem like a blast from the past, since an abundance of television shows have featured gay couples for years, many of which lock lips the same amount that any straight couple would.
For the most part, people are shocked that some viewers are displaying this kind of homophobia in 2016. These include @pickamixem, who tweeted, “Fans of Corrie absolutely outraged by a gay kiss on the show last night, do they not realise the creator of Corrie was gay???? #loveislove”.
This isn’t the first time that viewers have complained about the on-screen couple, who have kissed on numerous occasions over the past few weeks.
Actor Daniel Brocklebank, who plays Billy in the soap, has fought back at the negative comments this time around. He tweeted, “Had many angry tweets saying ‘I’m disgusted my kids saw men kiss on tv’ I’m disgusted they left it up [sic] tv to teach their kids how love works”.
Corrie creators are still sticking by their decisions, insisting that they ensure that what they show on the soap is within watershed regulations.
