As promised, this year’s Parklife was bigger, better and louder than before.
Just like Saturday, the crowds poured in to Heaton Park dressed in a colourful array of clothing. Sparkles, glitter, wellies and rain jackets all round. Not even the promise of rain or the deep muddy puddles could stop the high spirits of the keen Parklife goers.
Headlining the main stage was Frank Ocean. The delayed starting time and the limited visual aids meant that for some, it wasn’t quite the show that they expected. However, playing an eclectic mix of new and older songs such as ‘Chanel’, ‘Self Control’ and ‘Thinkin Bout You’, the crowd was cheering throughout. With the addition of a catwalk-esque stage running throughout the crowd, Ocean’s fans were closer to the star than any other performer.
Sunday also saw the likes of Rag n Bone Man and Jess Glynne on the main stage.
Jess Glynne lit up Parklife yet again with her outstanding talent. Her performance of ‘Don’t Be So Hard On Yourself’ and ‘Hold My Hand’ had the crowd dancing. Whilst her cheery spirit and dance moves made for a truly memorable performance, it was the emotion in ‘Take Me Home’, especially in light of recent events and the social unrest, that moved the entire crowd.
The main stage also saw Swedish singer and songwriter Zara Larsson perform in front of the eager crowd. The crowds echoed her hits throughout the set including ‘Never Forget You’ and ‘Girls Like’. With her white furry ensemble, she too was in the festival spirit and ready to have a good time.
With sunnier skies in comparison to Saturday’s weather, the spirits all round were high and bright. Nothing could keep the Parklife festivities at bay. From the Super Jam to The Hangar stages, the second day of this year’s Parklife festival was unrivalled.
This year’s Parklife will always be memorable, from the spritely atmosphere throughout the day to long walk home after the cancelation of the tram services.
