Whilst over five million people have signed a petition to revoke Article 50 and remain in the EU, there is an alternative petition other people are signing.
The “Revoke Article 50” petition is the biggest petition in parliamentary history. It is also the one with the fastest sign-up.
On the other hand, over half a million people have put their names to this other petition: ‘Leave the EU without a deal in March 2019.’
It reads: ‘We are wasting Billions of pounds of taxpayers money trying to negotiate in a short space of time.
‘Leaving the EU in March 2019 will allow the UK good time to negotiate more efficiently.
‘The EU will be more eager to accept a deal on our terms having lost a major partner.’ This one has already been debated in parliament, after it reached 100,000 signatures.
The government responded by saying: ‘The deal that we have reached with the EU is the right one for the United Kingdom.
‘Leaving without a deal would risk uncertainty for the economy, for business and for citizens.’
MPs also voted against leaving the EU without a deal – though it is still a possibility if Theresa May can’t get her deal through parliament.
The petition is still open, and you can add your name until April 2019. There’s quite a way to go before catching up to the other one, though.
