Probe into fatal house fire in Levenshulme

An investigation has been launched following a fatal house fire in Levenshulme.

On Wednesday 23 March 2016, at around 11:20am police were called to reports of a fire on Drury Street, Levenshulme.

Greater Manchester fire and rescue service were already in attendance at the location, when officers arrived and confirmed that they had found the body of a person inside the property.

The identity of the person that has died is yet to be confirmed.

There is currently a police cordon around the location which includes the closure of Drury Street.

Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Wilkinson from GMP’s South Manchester Division said:

“This is a tragic incident in which a person has sadly lost their life.

“A joint investigation has now been launched between the police and fire service, to establish the circumstances surrounding the cause of the fire”.
