A serviceman who urged people to join the military because you get to kill ‘black c***s without going to prison’ has been jailed.
Senior aircrewman Michael Sunders, is of the RAF Regiment. He wrote the racist comment on Facebook underneath a video showing black men assaulting a white woman, a court heard.
Saunders then wrote: ‘Like I say to my brother f*** all the black c***s, I mean all of them. Join the military and you get to kill them without going to prison, it’s f***ing fantastic’.
The 26-year-old, who serves at RAF Honington in Suffolk, removed the message but an appalled colleague had spotted it. The colleague posted it to a “lads only” group on WhatsApp, Colchester Military Court Centre, in Essex, heard.
The message was seen by a black recruit, who then refused to work with Saunders and reported him.
In court, it was said that Saunders claimed not to be a racist and was embarrassed and apologetic. However, his lawyers admitted the post was ‘grossly offensive’.
Judge Robert Hill sentenced Saunders to 24 days detention, reduced from 28 because of his early guilty plea.
