Range Rover found alight after gunshots in Longsight and Levenshulme

A Range Rover has been found engulfed in flames after reports of gunshots in South Manchester.

At around 6.55pm on Monday 15 May, GMP received reports that shots had been heard ‎on Longden Road in Longsight.

Shortly after at 6.57pm, police received another report that another shot had been heard on Alma Road in Levenshulme.

Officers attended both scenes immediately, closing Alma Road at the railway arch on the A6 Stockport Road.

The cordon stretched to Marshall Road, near Levenshulme railway station.

Both reports mentioned sightings of a white Range Rover, which has since been found set alight a short distance away.

Local residents say fire-fighters were quick to tackle the blaze inside the vehicle on nearby Elton Avenue.

GMP say they are currently investigating the reports and treating both incidents as linked.

Inspector Luke Breakspear said: “While there were no injuries, I cannot stress the danger those responsible have posed to the public.

“It is so important that any witnesses come forward to help us with our enquiries.

“We do not believe there is any wider threat to anyone’s safety at this time.

“If you have any concerns, please speak to one of our officers in the areas”.

Police officers remained on guard throughout the night of 15 May as the area remained sectioned off.
