Ricky Harris dies at 54 – Watch

US actor and comedian Ricky Harris has reportedly died at the age of 54. The comic whose death has brought about a chorus of tributes from celebrities, passed away after suffering a heart attack.

Harris’ manager Cindy Ambers broke the news publicly the same day – Monday 26 December 2016 – as the comedian passed away.

Among the inspirational humorous actor’s best-known credits, included a recurring role on the Chris Rock sitcom Everybody Hates Chris. He also had frequent collaborations with Snoop Dogg, a friend of his from their childhoods in Long Beach, California.

Harris’ other television and film roles also included appearances in Moesha, Heat and romantic drama film Poetic Justice.

Just over two years ago, Harris survived a major heart attack. Following this, he appeared in an interview in May 2015 with The Humor Mill thanking his fans for their support. He was thrilled to be working again after the health scare.

He carried on working on projects like 2015’s Royal Family Christmas and A Royal Family Holiday. Most recently, and notably, he worked in this year’s The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story.

‘A real dear friend’

Celebrities and his entertainment business colleagues including Snoop, Ice Cube and Chuck D have paid their respects on social media.

In an emotional Instagram video, Snoop said he had lost one of his dear friends in Ricky. “A lot of y’all might know him as a comedian, but … he was a real dear friend of mine”.

Snoop later added, “Y’all send a prayer out to Ricky Harris’ family for me … love you Rick, Long Beach’s finest”.

Comedian Cedric The Entertainer tweeted, “Devastated!!! #RIP to One and Only #RickyHarris Always been super solid dude”.

Adding to the flow of tributes was Ice Cube who said, “Damn, we lost Ricky Harris. the world is a little less funny today. RIP homie”.

Public Enemy’s Chuck D reminisced about Harris’ early years in his career in his tribute. He also made reference to the prominent personalities who have passed away in 2016.

“RickyHARRIS got 1st light from @icecube @SIRJINX & US doin voices on AmerikkasMostWanted. We were all in resPEct to his ability. Tough year”, Chuck D tweeted.

According to US reports, Harris leaves behind his mother and two daughters.
