Rihanna to be honoured at BET’s Black Girls Rock!

Grammy award winning artist Rihanna will be honoured at BET’s upcoming Black Girls Rock! awards.

The 28-year-old, who has just begun her ‘Anti’ world tour, will receive the Rock Star award at the ceremony on April 1. A post on the Black Girls Rock! website states “Genuine beauty and music icon Rihanna is much more than what meets the eye”.

Robyn Rihanna Fenty is magical, musical and monumental to black culture and she has the experiences to prove it. From being the first black woman to front a Dior campaign to landing the title of top-selling digital artist of all time, after selling 54 million albums and 210 million digital tracks worldwide. Rihanna is the artist to beat – Rihanna is a trendsetter.

Premiering on BET on Tuesday 5 April at 8pm, other honorees include ‘ShondaLand’ producer and writer Shonda Rhimes, who will receive the Shot Caller award. R&B legend Gladys Knight will receive the Living Legend award, ‘The Walking Dead’ actress Danai Gurira will pick up the Star Power award and activist Amandla Stenberg will receive the Young Gifted and Black award.

Black Lives Matter founders Patrisse Cullors, Alicia Garza and Opal Tometi will receive the Community Change Agent award.

Founded by celebrity DJ, model and executive producer Beverly Bond, Black Girls Rock! Is celebrating its 10-year anniversary and its sixth televised ceremony on BET Networks this year. It celebrates the achievements of black women who have broken barriers in the fields of art, music philanthropy and community service.
