Bollywood actor Salman Khan has been given a five-year jail sentence after being found guilty of a hit- and- run that happened 13 years ago.
In September 2002 Salman’s khan’s car ran over five people sleeping in a street in Mumbai. Four were injured and one man died.
In the years October 2002 to October 2007 Khan was charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder and granted bail, then that charge was dropped and he was tried for rash and negligent driving and a prime witness who said Khan was drunk died of tuberculosis.
In March of this year Khan told the court that he was not drunk and that his driver was behind the wheel but the judge found him guilty almost straight away on Wednesday 6 May saying, “You were driving the car; you were under the influence of alcohol,”
The sentence- which could have been as much as ten years- will affect several projects khan is involved in at the moment.
