The 30th South by Southwest (SXSW) music festival will feature a stage presenting solely UK talent; featuring Stormzy, Section Boyz and more.
SXSW is a conference and festivals event for film, interactive media and music in Austin, Texas. The Interactive Media event is 11-15 March, Film is 11-19 March and the Music festival is 15-20 March.
The music festival, for the music industry, is known for shining a spotlight on emerging talent, and this year’s SBTV Presents: Strictly British stage is the first of its kind.
The founder of SBTV Jamal Edwards said, “With high-profile US acts and the media paying UK music a lot of attention at the moment, it’s more important now than ever to have a carefully curated SXSW showcase exclusively spotlighting UK music”.
R&B vocalist Shakka, and grime veteran Frisco are also set to perform. SXSW has invited artists such as Manchester’s JP Cooper, Bath’s Iglooghost and London’s Little Simz to perform at the festival.
The curator and showcase producer British Underground is holding the showcase in partnership with SBTV. Its CEO Crispin Parry said, “We hope our experience staging world-class events at music industry festivals will be a strong resource to SBTV and the acts representing the UK this year”.
The festival has led to the signing of artists such as John Mayer, after he performed in 2000 and James Blunt after he performed a small show in 2004.
