A section of a new, lifting bridge being built next to Barton Bridge, along the M60 over the Manchester Ship Canal, collapsed earlier this week.
Police were called to the scene at around 9:30am on 16 May, where a large concrete platform had fallen 60ft between four pillars, and, fortunately, no one was injured.
Paul McKivitt, an electrician from Newcastle, said on Twitter: “I’m working on a building site near the bridge and heard a huge rumble that shook the whole building”.
The new bridge, positioned alongside the existing bridge, is part of a major, £50million development to improve traffic in the area around the Trafford Centre.
