News has been released by the police that a woman was sexually assaulted in Rochdale.
Soon after 7.30am on Thursday 22 October 2015, a man approached a 26-year-old woman on Watts Street and attempted to speak to her, it’s alleged.
He immediately grabbed the woman on the top of her right leg, and then ran off down Folly Walk, a ginnel beside Daz’s Auto, the police statement reads.
GMP has released descriptions of the man, saying he is around 5ft 7in tall, average build and aged in his 30s. He is described as having short hair on the back and sides but slightly curly on top. He was wearing rectangular framed glasses and wearing dark clothing.
The investigation is ongoing and police are appealing for information and witnesses.
Detective Constable Dave Gill said, “I would urge anyone who was in the area at the time of the offence who may have seen this man to call police. Likewise, if you see a man acting suspiciously in the area please call police straight away”.
The news is particularly worrying, as it comes after British Transport Police figures suggested that, the number of recorded sexual offences on public transport has risen 25% to a record level.
Sexual offences increased 25% from 1,117 to 1,399 in the last year, British Transport Police revealed.
