Californian superstar rapper, Snoop Dogg, has expressed his abomination towards the lack of black representation in this year’s Oscar Awards nominations.
The prestigious cinematic ceremony is due to take place on 28 February 2016 at the Dolby Theatre at the Hollywood & Highland Center.
Speculative headlines regarding potential winners have been dominating the media of late; Leonardo Dicaprio’s lead role in ‘The Revenant’ is tipped to win him his first award after his fifth nomination.
Shrouded by these headlines is the fact that no black or minority figures have been shortlisted for a lead or supporting role, hence prompting Snoop Dogg’s public outburst.
The rapper, who is known for his typically playful manner on social media, was evidently angered in the Instagram clip, explicitly proclaiming: “Why the f*** am I gonna watch that bull****”.
The 15-second post has amassed nearly 35,000 likes since its emergence on Tuesday morning, exposing an overlooked element to this year’s nominations.
Similar messages have been preached by the likes of former winner, Spike Lee, who wrote on his Instagram: “How is it possible for the second consecutive year all 20 contenders under the acting category are white?”
