Sofia Richie sheds light on racial discrimination

“People don’t really know that I’m black”.

Sofia Richie, the daughter of legendary singer Lionel Richie, has opened up about racial discrimination.

The 18-year-old claims she experiences discrimination in her local community of LA because people are unaware that she’s black.

The model and aspiring singer also stated: “I’ve been in situations where people will say something kind of racist. I’ll step in and they’ll be like, ‘Oh, well, you’re light’.

Calling for a more diverse view, Richie said “That still doesn’t cut it, buddy. It’s 2016, you better get your sh*t together before you get slapped out here”.

Dating Justin Bieber in the summer pushed Richie into the spotlight. Following the news of the relationship, she received overwhelming attention from the “Love Yourself” singer’s 79 million Instagram following.

In a photo shoot, the star posed with snakes – making a nod to the backlash she received from JB fans.

In light of overcoming harsh criticism and confronting racial discrimination, the star continues to be an inspiration young figure.
