Solange’s Saint Heron collective is up to a new venture – a collaboration with furniture company IKEA.
While not many details have been released yet, the collab will dive into “architectural and design objects with multifunctional use,” according to a tweet. “Stay tuned for more information!”
“Contemporary art is a huge part of people’s life today,” Marcus Engman, head of design at IKEA Range & Supply, said in a statement.
“At IKEA we are curious about the creative space in between architecture, design, art, and music and how that could come alive in the homes of the many people. This is what we want to explore together with Saint Heron.”
While the partnership is still in the early stages, the multifunctional aspect reminds us of the Tom Dixon collaboration (the DELAKTIG sofa/bed “platform for living” that debuted in February) while we can hope for some boundary pushing creativity, not unlike what Virgil Abloh and the retailer are currently working on.
Even though there’s very little information so far, Twitter is already excited:
@alibeaaans tweeted: ‘solange x ikea + me furnishing my new apt next year =’.
‘I can’t believe Solange bout to have me camping outside of IKEA, then walking 6 miles through the store to find her collection. Iconic’, @southernjawn wrote.
‘My dad just told me a corny joke about how Solange’s line with IKEA should be a lounge line called… Solounge…. and I hate that it was actually funny’, @julzsntna tweeted comically.
Saint Heron wasn’t the only major collaboration announced in Almut recently; the company is pairing with another powerhouse Scandinavian brand, LEGO, on a new collection.
There’s also a project with Adidas in the works on making sport accessible to everyone.
