Grime rapper Stormzy ‘locked off’ Thorpe Park after hiring out the entire theme park for his entourage and fans for his 23rd birthday celebrations.
Stormzy – real name Michael Omari – confirmed his plans on Twitter when he posted: “Soooo my gs, You know how I wanted to go Thorpe Park for my birthday? Well I’ve managed to get the whole damn park to myself…”
The Londoner treated well-wishers to a freebie at the theme park on 26 July. Nearly 200 fans turned up along with his close friends.
From 7pm onwards, the award-winning artist celebrated with a gig, and a birthday cake shaped like the Adidas logo.
The following morning, he tweeted: “And massive love to all the good people down at @THORPEPARK nothing but love and gratitude to you all yday meant a lot”.
On the Thorpe Park twitter account, a reply read: “@Stormzy1 No problem at all it was an amazing night we loved having you down! Same again next year yh? ;D”.
Judging from the tweets of those who attended the bash, it seems Stormzy has risen the bar for birthday parties. Andre Hart posted: “You have to clock it, stormzy done locked off Thorpe Park, had adidas party bags with gear, packed lunch by nandos & a surprise set, gobbed”.
Another fan, @SwarvzUk tweeted: “The way stormzy shut down Thorpe park for his birthday bash and everything was free hahaha #legend @DMODeejay snaps”.
With more than 55,000 people entering a competition to attend the birthday celebrations, there were only200 places up for grabs.
Celebrity guests included artists Wretch 32 and rap group Section Boyz as well as Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha.
