Atlanta based rapper T.I. has promised to match funds raised by six education initiatives, a total of $35,000 [£26,358], as part of his Tidal x Money Talk challenge launched earlier this year.
The fundraising challenge was launched in May, and asked education charities to raise as much money as they could, with the top earning charities put into a final voting round.
T.I. announced his donations via social media on Thursday 28 July, saying that he would match $35,000 of contributions raised by the finalists so far, out of his own pocket.
A post on his Instagram account said: “Yeeeeeaaahhhh!!!! Congratulations G!!!
@TIDALHiFi’s #TIDALXMONEYTALKfinalists: You guys have inspired me to match funds for ALL 6 of your education initiatives!
“Thanks for voting, entering & committing to improving education within your communities!”
Entrants in the competition were eligible to win a share of a possible $300,000 [£225,827], with T.I. partnering with music site Tidal to promote the competition.
On the crowd-funding site Crowd Rise, education charities and individuals in educational organisations were invited to compete to be considered among T.I.’s ‘favorites [sic]’.
The six finalists were the Educate Me College Tour, Fate Loves The Fearless, Generation You Employed, Musicianship’s, Shaw Inspires Teen-Preneurs, and the Truancy Intervention Project.
