Richard Branson once said, “If someone offers you an amazing opportunity, and you’re not sure you can do it, say yes and learn how to do it later”. Wise words.
You may or may not believe this but we live in a world of many opportunities. I know it may not feel like it sometimes, especially when you listen to the news and all we hear is negativity. We are fed a constant diet of war, terrorism, natural disasters and so on and so on forth. It almost feels like the powers that be want us to be frightened, angry and negative.
However, whilst we focus on the negativity and the drama, we let life and opportunities pass us by. We can end up in a life we don’t want, in a career we despise and in relationships we loathe.
Taking advantage of opportunities is vital. Just one could really make a profound difference to our lives. Nevertheless, we allow fear and other people’s opinions hold us back. So how can we take advantage of opportunities? Maybe the following can help:
Take a chance. That doesn’t mean that you have to say yes to everything, but you can take a well-judged risk. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
Have a positive attitude and this will help you to feel more optimistic and open minded. Having a positive attitude can help you feel more confident.
Believe in yourself and your own abilities. Don’t let false beliefs like “it’s too late to start anything”, “I’m too young” or “I’m too old”, hold you back.
Finally, the honourable Marcus Mosiah Garvey said “Take advantage of every opportunity. Where there is none, make it for yourself, and let history record that we toiled laboriously and courageously”.
Stay focused and stay blessed.
