The Power of Change

There are two certainties in life. Death and taxes. However, I would like to add another one. Change.

To be clear, when I talk about change, I refer to the ability to transform or to make and become different.

It is a fact of life that nothing stays the same. Change is inevitable. Never the less, many of us dislike and fear change for a variety of reasons including fear of the unknown, fear of failure and self-doubt. Some may also believe that our lives are already pre-determined and we have little control over the many directions our lives take. We may also think that real change is impossible. I would disagree.

There could be situations in our lives that we may be unhappy with. The only way we can improve our situation is by changing it. I know change can sometimes be difficult, even extremely difficult. Although, the alternative could be a life of frustration, unhappiness and anger.

In general, I believe change is good and positive. Imagine a life without change. Things would stagnate and die. Change can be exciting and can help us to step outside of our comfort zones. We forgot that change can bring us so many opportunities and possibilities.

We are all capable of changing and if we want to change certain aspects of our lives, we can:
Start small. Don’t try to change everything at once. Prioritise the most important things you need to change. One step at a time…

Set goals and targets: Set realistic goals and targets and make sure they are SMART goals.

Be positive and patient. Sometimes change can take time and may not happen immediately. Stick at it and be patient.
Ask for help: No man or woman is an island and you are not on your own. Speak to people who you trust like good friends, family or even professionals. They can offer you support, advice and guidance.

Finally, the author and motivational speaker Jim Rohn said, ‘Your life does not get better by chance, it gets better by change’.

Stay blessed and stay focused.
