Recent figures have shown that the number of homeless people within our city has grown tenfold over the past five years.
According to these statistics, Manchester has more rough sleepers than any city outside London.
The substantial rise in figures shows that the problem is increasing at an alarming rate. Are we becoming desensitised in the sense that the more homeless we see on local streets, the easier it is becoming to turn a blind eye?
Additionally, is it a collective responsibility as a society to help the homeless – or should it be left purely in the hands of the council?
