The family of a man who died in Middleton has paid homage to him.
Shortly before 2.30pm on Friday 8 April police were called to farmland near to Heywood Old Road, Middleton, to a report of a serious work related incident.
Police and paramedics attended and found that a man, who has formally been identified as 28-year-old Matthew Drummond, had been seriously injured. He was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
A 67-year-old man was also injured during the incident. He was taken to hospital for treatment and has since been discharged. A joint investigation between Greater Manchester Police and the Health and Safety Executive is ongoing in order to establish the exact circumstances of the man’s death.
The family of Matthew Drummond has remarked “Matthew’s death has left us all devastated. Matthew was a hardworking man who loved to work outdoors. Matthew was always happy to be working with machines and we take some comfort from the fact that he died doing what he loved. Matthew was a loving dad to his children and a fantastic husband, son and brother”.
They also added “Matthew refused to grow up, he was always the joker and he loved life. We will miss him forever. The family would like to thank everyone for their kind support and would now like some time to grieve privately and remember Matthew”.
