Two men have been arrested after a man was forcibly taken from near to his home in Fallowfield.
The two men, aged 30 and 34, were arrested on suspicion of kidnap and remain in custody for questioning.
At around 10pm on Tuesday 18 December 2018 police were called to Elsmore Road to reports that a man had been forced into a car.
An eyewitness reported that five masked men in a light-coloured vehicle – believed to be a Volkswagen – had approached the man, who had been stood alone on the street, and forced him into the car before driving off.
Further enquiries have revealed that the victim was removed from the first car on Maine Road in Moss Side a short time later before being seriously assaulted in the street and then forced into a second car – described by witnesses as being a Volkswagen Golf or Volkswagen Passat.
At 12.30am on Wednesday 19 December, a man in his 30s was discovered with serious injuries on Fitzwarren Street in Pendleton. He was taken to hospital where he remains for treatment.
Officers are continuing to appeal for witnesses to come forward.
Superintendent Dave Pester of GMP’s City of Manchester Division, said: “Although we now have two men in custody, I would like to stress that this investigation is very much ongoing and finding those responsible for this incident remains our top priority.
“We are treating this as a targeted attack, and our detectives are continuing with their enquiries to establish why this man has been subjected to such a harrowing ordeal.
“I can appreciate that this might cause some concern in the community, but I want to reassure people that we are doing everything we possibly can to progress our investigation.
“Please get in touch if you know anything or if you saw something suspicious, as your information could be vital in allowing us to piece together what has happened and why.”
