Two arrested over stabbing on Metrolink tram

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) has arrested two people in connection with a stabbing on a Metrolink tram in Beswick.

On Saturday 8 October 2016, around 6.50am, police were called after a 36-year-old man suffered a stab wound to the neck, while travelling on the Ashton-bound tram near to Beswick.

He was taken to hospital for treatment and has since been discharged to continue his recovery at home.

Police have now arrested a 49-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman on suspicion of committing a serious assault.

Both remain in custody for questioning.

“We have received calls from several people which have allowed us to make progress in our investigation.

“Social media has become an increasingly helpful tool in widely circulating police appeals and we thank the public for sharing them”.
