Two 18-year-old men have been arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated public order offences. The pair was arrested after a ‘racist’ video emerged showing students allegedly shouting ‘we hate blacks’.
The shocking footage was allegedly filmed outside student Rufaro Chisango’s door in her halls at Nottingham Trent University.
She posted the disturbing clip onto Twitter, claiming it had been filmed on 5 March at the university. In the clip, at least two men can be heard signing football-style chants. However, they changed the words to adopt racist language.
The songs include, ‘We hate the blacks – we are the black haters,’ and ‘ooh ahh f**k the blacks’. One man also responds to a female by saying: ‘Blacks and whites will never be together.
‘A woman also can be heard shouting ‘leave her alone’. Ms Chisango, the only black person on her floor, posted a message alongside the recording that read: ‘Yoo I’m fuming, the way people in the same uni halls as me are chanting “we hate the blacks” outside my bedroom door.
‘Words cannot describe how sad this makes me feel, in this 2018 people think this is still acceptable.’
On Twitter, she said later in the video they were saying “blacks would go back to picking cotton”.
‘I’m the only black person on my floor and they were chanting this outside my door so don’t be surprised to why I didn’t leave my room.’ She told the reception and they said that this will be dealt with the next morning.
‘I’ve written a statement and have sent it to the uni and I’m waiting for a response… but I want to highlight how serious this is and if I had broken their table or anything they would have dealt with it straight away but not this.’
