Two men charged in Altrincham town centre murder

Two men have been charged after a man was murdered in Altincham.

26-year-old Aiden Oakes of Altrincham and 22-year-old Anton Oakes of Broadheath have been charged with murder and section 18 assault.

Both men have been remanded in custody. They are due to appear at Manchester Crown Court, Crown Square on Thursday 29 December 2016. Greater Manchester Police (GMP) did also report that both men appeared in Manchester Magistrates’ Court on Saturday 24 December 2016.

On Thursday 22 December 2016, around 2.40am, police were called to reports of a fight. A group of 10 men were fighting outside a bar on The Causeway in Altrincham.

Upon arrival, police officers found 32-year-old Christopher Thompson from Stockport with serious head injuries. He was taken to hospital where he sadly died.

Officers launched a murder investigation and two men aged 25 and 22 were later arrested.

The section 18 assault charge relates to an assault against another man.

A tribute to the murdered victim has been released by his family, in which he was noted as ‘one in a million’ by the local community.
