After arming themselves with a meat cleaver and a knife, two men have been jailed following an attempt to rob a McDonalds in Stockport.
Robert Wood, 47 and Ashley Makin, 26, both from Salford, pleaded guilty to armed robbery at a previous hearing.
Around 12.40am on 29 September 2015, the two men, wearing masks and yielding weapons entered the Ashton Road McDonalds, Bredbury.
After threatening members of staff behind the counter with their weapons, the pair demanded the manager open the safe.
Various threats lead the manager to empty the safe contents into a bag. Makin and Wood then fled the scene with £1700 in cash before the police were called.
Monday 30 January saw their sentencing at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court. Makin received 5 years in prison and Wood will serve a sentence of 5 years and 4 months.
Detective Constable Mark Healey of GMP’s Stockport Borough said: “This was a violent robbery that left staff terrified. I hope today’s sentencing demonstrates our commitment to getting justice and ridding our streets of knife crime”.
