Two men jailed over brutal attack of 65-year-old Barbara Dransfield

The victim of the horrific assault, Barbara Dransfield, has spoken about her experience following the sentencing of her attackers.

Nathan Lee Clark, 24, of no fixed abode, was sentenced to 19 years in prison for Conspiracy To Rob and GBH with intent.

Stephen Mortin, 23, from Hyde, was sentenced to 18 years in prison for Conspiracy To Rob and GBH.

The court heard that the pair forced their way inside the woman’s home on Neal Avenue. They were armed with a knife and a baseball bat and demanded money.

When she refused, Mortin and Clark launched into a savage attack. They left her with injuries to her arms, a fractured skull, and multiple facial fractures.

She has since made a full recovery.

Detective Chief Inspector Richard Ennis, of GMP’s Tameside Borough, released a statement. “This was a sickening attack on a vulnerable woman that left her with some horrific injuries”, he said.

“Not only did Clark and Mortin inflict terrible physical suffering but they also left this woman feeling unsafe in her own home.

“She has displayed immense bravery throughout the trial and also to overcome this cowardly attack.

“I hope that these men being put behind bars where they belong gives her some closure and helps her to move on”.
