Two women have died following a serious collision at Withington Hospital. The collision involved a car and a number of pedestrians in the hospital’s carpark.
Shortly after 2pm on Tuesday 7 March 2017, officers were called to reports of the collision. Two women were taken to hospital with life threatening injuries. Both women have sadly died.
An 89-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He currently remains in custody.
Sergeant Lee Westhead, from the GMP Serious Collision Investigation unit, said: “My thoughts go out to anyone affected by this tragic incident”.
An investigation has since been launched to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
“We are in the very early stages of the investigation and I would urge anyone who witnessed the collision, or saw the vehicle beforehand, to contact GMP”.
