Two people were assaulted on Claybank Street in Rochdale’s Heywood at the weekend. One of the victims – a 52-year old man – later died in hospital, whilst the 37-year old woman present during the attack suffered facial injuries.
James Clarke, 34, who had been taken by the police in custody for questioning, has since been named and charged with murdering his father Graham Clarke. He has also been charged with assaulting the aforementioned woman.
Graham Clarke’s family paid tribute to him saying,
“We are completely devastated by the loss of our beloved brother.
“What happened is a tragedy and we would like to ask people not to speculate and allow the police to carry out their investigation.
“We thank everyone for their support over the last 24 hours and ask that we are now left alone to grieve for our brother”.
In exactly a month from now on Wednesday, April 8, James Clarke is due to appear at Rochdale and Bury magistrates’ court.
