Wicked, the hit West End and Broadway musical, is set to soar into Manchester’s legendary theatre venue, The Lowry, for the last leg of its UK tour in just four weeks time.
Between 3 June and 25 July 2015 you will be able to catch the spellbinding story of the Witches of Oz in a production that has enthralled over 47 million people around the world over the past 12 years. The 100 international awards it has scooped up well and truly cement its title as ‘Broadway’s biggest blockbuster’.
The imaginative story, based on Gregory Maguire’s best-selling novel, follows the paths of two sorcery students who are to become Glinda The Good and The Wicked Witch of the West – two characters who have become thoroughly ingrained in our culture courtesy of L. Frank Baum’s monumental The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
With music by Grammy and Academy Award winning Stephen Schwarts, Wicked boasts a cast that includes the likes of ex-Brookside star, Stephen Pinder, Emily Tierney who played Glinda in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s original The Wizard of Oz production, and Ashleigh Gray as the lead.
Director Joe Mantello, two-time winner of the Tony Award and an Olivier Award nominee, joins forces with producers Marc Platt, Universal Stage Productions, TheAraca Group, Jon B. Platt and David Stone to deliver a magical, innovative performance that has already delighted the world over, and is set to stun a new generation of Manchester audiences.
