Witness appeal after elderly man dies

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) is appealing for witnesses after an elderly man died in Oldham.

On the night of Halloween (8.45pm on Saturday 31 October 2015), police officers were called after reports of a man in his 80’s had been damaging a car on Housley Avenue, Chadderton and had been detained by a member of the public.

Having attended the address where the man had fallen ill and stopped breathing, officers performed CPR and an ambulance was called.  He was taken to hospital but sadly died later.  A Home Office post mortem is due to take place later today.

Currently, no arrests have been made and the incident has been referred to the IPCC.

“We are currently supporting the man’s family who are obviously upset with their loss as we continue to investigate the circumstances of what happened”, Detective Inspector Richard Ennis said.

“At this moment in time, we are not treating his death as suspicious but I would ask anyone who was in the Housley Avenue area at around 8:45pm, and may have witnessed anything to call police.
