Witness appeal after firearms incidents in North Manchester

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) is appealing for information following three firearms incidents in North Manchester.

Between Sunday and Monday evening, there have been three firearms discharges in Harpurhey and Crumpsall.

On Sunday 7 August 2016, at around 11.20pm, police received several reports of a shooting at a takeaway on Rochdale Road, Harpurhey.

Officers attended and a 27-year-old man was taken to hospital with gunshot wounds to his leg and torso.

He underwent surgery for his injuries and is now in a stable condition. Officers attended and recovered a shotgun.

On Monday 8 August 2016, at around 8.05pm, police were called to reports of gun shots being heard on Crescent Road, Crumpsall.

Officers attended and recovered a shotgun and handgun.

A 20-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of firearms and remains in police custody for questioning.

At around 10.30pm on Monday 8 August 2016 police were called to reports of gun shots being heard in Harpurhey.

The officers who attended the scene discovered damage consistent with a firearm discharge to the front of the door of an address on Derville Walk.

Fortunately, the occupants who were inside the address at the time were unharmed.

GMP has launched investigations into the incidents and enquiries into all three are ongoing, with armed response vehicles on patrol in the area to provide reassurance.

Chief Inspector John Paul Ruffle of GMP’s City of Manchester Team, said: “We do not believe that these were random attacks.

“We have increased patrols in the area to reassure the community and a significant team of detectives are working on the investigation.

“We have a man in custody in connection with the shots that were fired in Crumpsall and are following a number of lines of enquiries to find those responsible.

“I’d like to take this opportunity to thank members of the public who have come forward with information but I’m also appealing to those who have not yet spoken to us but may hold valuable information, to please get in touch as soon as possible. No matter how insignificant you think that information may be to our investigation, it could be the missing piece to the jigsaw”.
